Hearing Aids with Fall Detection and Alerts

Hearing aids with fall detection use built-in motion sensors to automatically detect when a user suffers a hard fall. If a fall occurs and help is needed, the device sends a text alert to pre-selected emergency contacts. This integrated safety feature provides advanced hearing clarity alongside peace of mind for both the wearer and their loved ones.

How Do Hearing Aids with Fall Detection Work?

Hearing loss is one of the biggest risk factors for falls.1 That’s why at Audibel The Hearing Center, we are proud to offer Audibel hearing aids with fall detection and alert capabilities.

Hearing aids with built-in fall detection offer both personalized hearing support and enhanced personal safety in a discreet, wearable device. This technology works through a combination of several innovative features:

  • Built-In Motion Sensors: Using built-in motion sensors, these hearing aids track body movements, speed, and orientation in real-time.
  • Automatic Fall Detection: When a sudden change in motion occurs, specialized algorithms immediately recognize it as a potential fall.
  • Fall Alerts: If a fall occurs and help is needed, a text alert and GPS location details are sent to pre-selected emergency contacts.
  • Balance Builder Tools: The My Audibel companion app also offers guided exercises to help strengthen balance and monitor changes over time.

Together, these features turn hearing aids into a discreet, multi-functional safety solution, offering advanced hearing clarity alongside peace of mind for both the wearer and their loved ones.

In-App Balance Builder Tools

Preventing falls is just as critical as responding to them. Which is why the My Audibel also offers free Balance Builder tools. Through guided exercises you can strengthen and monitor your balance from the comfort of your own home.

Using the hearing aid’s built-in motion sensors, the Balance Builder tools analyze your movements and monitor how steady you are on your feet. With these insights, you can identify early signs of balance issues and combat the risk of falling before it even happens.

Hearing Aids with Fall Detection FAQs

Get answers to common questions about hearing aids with fall detection:

Can hearing aids help reduce the risk of falls?

Yes. Hearing loss has been associated with an increased risk of falls, especially in older adults.1 However, research shows that people who wear hearing aids are 50% less likely to experience a fall compared to those who don’t wear them.2

Audibel hearing aids with fall detection add another layer of safety by monitoring movement and sending an alert to pre-selected emergency contacts when a fall occurs. With the My Audibel companion app, you also get access to guided balance builder tools to help strengthen stability and monitor changes over time.

While hearing aids can’t prevent falls entirely, addressing hearing loss is part of a broader approach to maintaining long-term safety, independence, and overall quality of life.

Are hearing aids with fall detection accurate?

Yes. Audibel hearing aids with fall detection are incredibly accurate thanks to built-in motion sensors and advanced fall detection algorithms. While the motion sensors continuously track body movement, speed, and orientation, the specialized algorithms analyze the data to detect falls in real time.

The fall detection system looks for specific patterns such as a sudden and fast downward drop, a rapid deceleration or impact, followed by a period of stillness. This helps distinguish a possible fall from everyday activities and movements. Plus, your head moves directly with your body’s center of gravity, so the built-in sensors can better recognize true movement patterns and reduce false alerts.

What happens when a fall occurs?

When Audibel hearing aids detect a possible fall, the system automatically begins the fall alert process. A 60- or 90-second countdown starts and audibly plays through the hearing aids, while also appearing on the smartphone lock screen.

If help is not needed, the alert can be canceled during the countdown by pressing the control button on the hearing aid or tapping “Cancel Alert” on the smartphone screen.

If the alert is not canceled before the countdown ends, a fall alert text message is sent to up to three pre-selected emergency contacts. When location sharing is enabled, the alert includes the precise GPS location of where the fall occurred.

Who receives a fall detection alert?

A fall detection alert can be sent to up to three pre-selected emergency contacts. These contacts can include family members, caregivers, or other people who should be notified in the event of a fall.

The contacts are selected ahead of time through the My Audibel companion app. When location sharing is enabled, the alert text message also includes the precise GPS location of where the fall occurred.

If you have additional questions about how to set up the fall detection and alerts for your Audibel hearing aids, please contact the Audibel The Hearing Center team.

Can hearing aids with fall detection contact emergency services?

No. Hearing aids with fall detection do not directly contact 911, first responders, or any other emergency services. Instead, when a fall is detected, the system sends an alert text message to up to three of your own pre-selected emergency contacts.

These contacts can be family members, caregivers, or other trusted people who can respond and arrange additional help when needed. When location sharing is enabled, the alert includes the precise GPS location of where the fall occurred, helping contacts know where to send additional help if it is needed.
